Our mission

Heatherton House is a place of learning aimed at allowing teenagers who cannot meet the required outcomes of an academic programme to learn, progress and grow at their own rate in areas of their interest and ability.

Each child will have their own IDP – (Individualised Development Programme).  This will be developed in consultation with teachers, parents, student and relevant therapists.  This is a dynamic, fluid document that will be reviewed as needed. Part of the IDP will be indentifying each child’s interests and abilities which will lead to further investigations and learning.

As much as possible, learning and work will take place outside a formal classroom environment. There will be an outing at least once a week. Outings will be connected to the theme or learning area for the week/term.
